Why A Roth IRA May Be The Best AI Investment

You may be thinking a Roth IRA is a tax-advantaged retirement account that has absolutely nothing to do with Artificial Intelligence.

Unless, of course, you own AI investments inside of it.

And that's the point.

Follow this four-moves-ahead logic...

First:

If the AI megatrend proves to have the multi-decade staying power that many believe it does, AI will become an increasingly important part of the global economy.

Think about the Internet and Cloud computing. Both fundamentally changed how businesses operate, how people work, and where economic value is created.

AI could follow a similar trajectory.

Second:

If the US continues to lead in AI, it could accelerate an economic transformation that's already been underway for decades.

The US economy has increasingly shifted away from traditional manufacturing and toward technology, services, intellectual property, and knowledge-based industries.

AI could accelerate that transition even further.

Third:

If AI and automation increasingly shift economic value away from human labor and toward technology and capital ownership, the way governments collect taxes could eventually change.

Why?

Because if a growing share of economic wealth is generated by capital rather than labor, governments may face increasing pressure to find new sources of tax revenue.

That could create pressure for governments to collect a greater share of tax revenue from capital and investment income—or potentially increase taxes more broadly.

Fourth:

If future tax rates are higher than the rates you're paying today, a Roth IRA could become particularly valuable.

Why?

Because you pay taxes on your contributions today, but qualified withdrawals in retirement—including decades of investment growth—are generally tax-free.

In other words, you could potentially pay taxes at today’s rates on the money you invest while allowing future appreciation to compound without additional federal income taxes.

Which brings us back to the original point.

A Roth IRA isn't an AI investment.

But a Roth IRA invested in AI could be a powerful combination: participating in a potentially transformative, multi-decade investment trend while taking advantage of one of the most attractive tax structures available to individual investors.

So if you are worried about taxes going up, and you are interested in owning a piece of the AI megatrend—a Roth IRA could be a spectacular way to do that.

Be smart, people. Think ahead. Your future self will thank you.
